A deck inspection can save lives
Here in Central Indiana, we really love our decks! After waiting all winter, who isn't ready to run outside and enjoy a cookout once it is warm again? Unfortunately, we tend to take the safety of our decks for granted- sometimes with disastrous results. Collapsing decks injure and kill hundreds of people every year. In fact, it has been estimated that around half of the decks in the U.S. are not safe to be occupied, or have deteriorated to an unsafe condition. Sometimes we find that a deck was not built safely in the first place!
Decks inspected for safety
Hoosier Guy Home Inspection includes a thorough inspection of all decks with a full home inspection. We also recommend that follow-up deck inspections be conducted every two years or so. (We may suggest annual deck inspection, if the condition is already significantly deteriorated). We inspect all of the visible structural elements, including the ledger attachment to the house, beam and joist connections to posts, posts to footer connections, and the condition of the decking.
